Possibly we have gone to a friend's house, and we have been able to enjoy the company of a ferret as a pet. We have played with him, he has chased us down the corridor trying to catch our leg, we have seen how he took a shoe and tried to hide it... In short, we have had such a good time playing with him that we have decided to buy one!!!
We go to the store, we find out about care, the cage, they show us one that was sleeping and wham!!! We fell in love and left the store with the ferret, the cage and all the kit.
After all this, we got home. The first thing we have to do is install the cage with its substrate, food, water, toys... Once we have everything ready, it is time for our ferret to discover its new home.
When we go to look for him, he is sleeping, so we gently take him and put him inside the cage so that he can eat, drink and rest a little.
Then when we see that he has done everything and is active, we want to start playing with him, so we open the cage, try to catch him and... It has bitten us!!! Before thinking that we have been sold an aggressive ferret, let's give everyone some acclimatization time.
It is important that when we go to catch our ferret, we do it firmly, because if we hesitate, he will think that we are playing with him, and that we are one more of his pack.
Ferrets when they play with each other, They play by bouncing around and biting each other. It must be taken into account that the ferret's skin is much thicker and harder than ours, so what is a game for them can cause us pain, but we insist, it is not aggression, but a simple game in which we must set the limits.
It will be enough to take our ferret by the skin, and shake it gently while we say "no".
Ferrets are very intelligent and social, so with a few times that we do it to him, he will understand that he should not do it. We must take into account that the change from the store to home can cause them stress, so during the first day we will let them get used to new smells and noises from the house So a couple of days of patience will suffice to get a playful and affectionate ferret, delighted to spend most of the hours a day with us.
