Can my dog eat vegetables?

That in a good diet the intake of vegetables is essential is something that does not take us by surprise. These foods are part of the diets that advocate a healthy lifestyle, even reaching canine food. However, we must bear in mind that animals have a stomach and digestive system that differs from ours, so not everything we eat can be beneficial for them.

So that you can be clear about it, here we detail which vegetables our dogs can eat and which ones not.

ALLOWED VEGETABLES:

In general, the vegetables that we can give our dog are those green leafy vegetables, since they contain a wide variety of vitamins, antioxidant properties, fiber and an endless number of benefits. Apart from this type of vegetables, we can also find others rich in beta-carotene, which are also recommended. Some of the examples of these allowed vegetables, all of them raw, washed and peeled and/or chopped, are:

  • Spinach has a high fiber content, which helps our dog regulate bowel movement. In addition, this vegetable is rich in vitamin A, C, E, B and F Lettuce, rich in iron, antioxidant and purifying properties.
  • Celery, powerful natural antioxidant, diuretic, digestive, anti-inflammatory and helps strengthen your immune system.
  • Green beans, with a high fiber and magnesium content, as well as vitamin K, ideal for overweight dogs.
  • The sweet potato, a tuber that provides vitamin B6, C and beta-carotene, an antioxidant pigment that will improve your body. It also has a sweet touch that your pet will love.
  • Carrots, with vitamin C, as well as being a food with high antioxidant, cleansing and digestive properties, help to eliminate bacterial plaque, strengthening your dog's teeth.
  • Pumpkin, recommended especially for dogs suffering from constipation, since it is rich in fiber. It is also a great antioxidant and diuretic.

However, as we have previously mentioned, there are some toxic foods for your pet, which you must take into account and do not give them under any circumstances.

VEGETABLES NOT ALLOWED:

  • Onion, chives and leeks, which contain thiosulfate, a compound that destroys red and white blood cells, causing anemia that, in some cases, can be fatal
  • Garlic, like onion, contains thiosulfate, which in addition to being able to cause anemia, can also cause tachycardia, lethargy, hyperventilation and other ailments.
  • Mushrooms or fungi, as in people, we can find toxic mushrooms or fungi for our dog, being digestible for us, so we have to be especially careful with them since they can cause multi-organ failure in our body in a matter of hours. pet.
  • The tomato can cause acute stomach pain in our dog, so we must avoid its intake.

Remember It is essential that our dog feed on feed, since it provides you with the proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats and oils you need in a balanced way. That is why the feed is considered a complete food.

Remember that you can complement the feed with wet food and healthy snacks. If you offer them vegetables and/or the same food that you eat, you should know that they should not exceed 15% or 20% of their diet, and that you should vary the different types of vegetables.

I think Moist Here!

Healthy Snacks Here!

In this way our pet can enjoy a varied diet in shape, texture, color and flavor.
