hygiene in ferrets

ferrets need regular hygienic care. At least once a month, but preferably weekly, you must be clean ears, trim nails and check teeth. Periodically, it is also good to make them a bathroom -which can be dry- and, obviously, you have to keep your cage and bedding in good condition, being the best remedy to avoid excessive body odor.

In order to perform these hygienic tasks, you must hold the ferret by the neck, and even if you don't like it, you can perfectly endure a few minutes.

Ear cleaning

To clean the ears you need a special productand Auri Clean by Cunipic “Click Here”, And a cotton swab like ours.

Cut the nails

Perhaps one of the most difficult tasks is to cut the nails. It must be taken into account where the nerve ends and cut from there (but don't worry, at the end of the article you will find a link to the video that shows it to you). Special cat or bird nail clippers can be used, but the ones we use also work.

So that the ferret smells good

As we have commented before, keeping the cage and bedding clean is very important. The bedding should be changed weekly and the cage should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected monthly. The natural odors of ferrets are not liked or disliked by everyone equally, but keeping a clean cage helps minimize them.

The bathroom, in this sense, it is also important and you can use both soap for bathing with water, as well as powder shampoo “Click Here” for the dry bath, which can be done more often.

If you follow these hygiene rules, your ferret will thank you and you will keep your house free of odors. And to be able to see how to perform all the tasks, inside video!
