Antibiotics should only be used under the prescription of a veterinarian, since the improper use of these can cause very serious poisoning, and even the death of our pet. Furthermore, it should be borne in mind that rabbits, due to their particular metabolism, are much more sensitive to antibiotics than dogs and cats, or even birds, to give a few examples. On the other hand, under no circumstances should the use of our medicines be extrapolated to our pets.
What can happen if we misuse antibiotics?
Very serious consequences are the enteropathy and gastroenteritis: which are acute diarrheas (toxic colitis) with the presence of mucus and even blood, which evolve towards dehydration, anorexia, hypothermia and finally the death of the pet. This happens when you remove the gut and bacteria that damage the intestines proliferate in their place. On the other hand, there may be cases of intoxication with sudden death; growth retardation in young animals, tissue necrosis due to subcutaneous administration, liver failure, or alopecia.
There are lists of contraindicated and indicated antibiotics, but we believe that it is not necessary to write it, in accordance with the philosophy of what we have recommended, which is to always consult a professional in case our animal shows signs of illness and, of course, never administer medicines, nor antibiotics, without prior veterinary diagnosis.

What will we do in case of poisoning by antibiotics?
In case of poisoning, again, the recommendation is to take it to the vet. And, depending on the poisoning picture we have, the treatment will be one or the other. Of course, in all cases fluid therapy is essential, since the important thing is that the animal does not become dehydrated.
